Hostile Witness — Communication with resistant witnesses

How do you communicate with someone who has already decided not to trust you? One of the scenarios presented within the POLCOM project highlights this kind of high-pressure communication challenge — a police officer engaging with a witness who is openly resistant and unwilling to cooperate. Through scenarios like this, POLCOM emphasises that communication is a core professional competence that directly affects safety and the outcome of police interactions.

Module 4. Conflict de-escalation and resolution

We have professions that are called upon when things are going well in our life. Not the law enforcement. Law enforcement professionals are called when something is wrong, when people are in distress, or when there is a conflict. This module is designed to help first responders manage these situations.
